| After three solid albums (one when they were still called Zeitgeist), the Reivers really ought to be more popular than they are. End of the Day (Capitol/DB/8.98 list) is their most likeable record yet, throwing all sorts of ideas into the hopper- country twang, garage grit, neo-Velvet Underground moodiness, back porch harmonies- and coming out with some shimmering, extremely catchy tunes. The use of a new producer (Andy Metcalfe, of Soft Boys/Squeeze fame, replacing Don Dixon) results in a more polished, but not overdone sound. |
